If you use email, chat, or forums, you've probably come across what looks like a secret foreign language of weird symbols. This list of emoticons and abbreviations will help you talk the talk of the online world. Now you, too, can impress friends and family with fun and unusual abbreviations! Depending on where you are online and what fonts are being used, you may encounter differents sets of smileys. While no one set of emoticons is necessarily complete, this list should cover most of the traditional smileys. It is also important to note that most smileys comes in two forms: with a nose and without. Just remember to tilt your head to the left to view them properly. :)

AFK	Abbreviation for 'away from keyboard.' This is used in chat areas to explain why someone may suddenly be unresponsive, such as when their doorbell rings and they stay logged on to get the door.	BBL	Abbreviation for "be back later."
AKA	Abbreviation for 'also known as.'	BBS	Abbreviation for "be back soon."

ESP	Abbreviation for 'especially.' On a pseudo-scientific level, it stands for 'extrasensory perception,' which can come in very handy when communicating via email.	FWIW	Abbreviation for 'for what it's worth.'
EST	Abbreviation for 'Eastern Standard Time,' the easternmost time zone in the United States.	FYA	Abbreviation for 'for your amusement.' For example, if someone forwards a joke via email, at the top they may simply put 'FYA.'
ETA	Abbreviation for 'estimated time of arrival.' A user might refer to an ETA as the time he or she expects to return to the computer.	FYI	Abbreviation for 'for your information.' This abbreviation is commonly used at the top of forwarded emails. For example, a colleague at work may send you an article via email because they think it may be of interest or value to you, and simply put 'FYI.'
